Jade Leung is the former UK prime minister’s adviser on AI, responsible for ensuring the United Kingdom is a leading nation in preparing for transformative AI and unlocking its benefits.

Leung is also vice chair for the UK’s AI Security Institute (AISI) and formerly its chief technology officer. In her capacity as CTO, she built the UK AISI’s research and engineering teams into a full-force frontier AI national security testing and evaluation team—the first of its kind in the world.

Previously, Leung led a team at OpenAI and was a partner at Apollo Projects venture fund, working on early-stage investing and special projects in deep tech. She cofounded the Centre for the Governance of AI at the University of Oxford. In 2024, she was included in Time magazine’s list of the “100 Most Influential People in AI.”

Leung completed her PhD in AI governance at the University of Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship and her MPhil in environmental policy from the University of Cambridge. She is a University of Auckland alumna in engineering.
